The short version
Ration keeps everything on your phone. There are no accounts and no login, we don't run a server that stores your activity, and we don't sell or share your data. This policy is short because there's very little data to describe — and that's the whole point of how the app is built.
Who we are
Ration (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is an iOS app that helps you limit your own screen time. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it. If you have any questions, email us at hello@tryration.co.uk.
What we collect
In normal use, Ration does not collect or transmit any personal information. The app has no account system and no sign-in. The apps you choose to limit, your daily budget, your session history, your passes and your settings are all stored only on your device. None of it is sent to us.
How the app uses Apple Screen Time
To limit apps, Ration uses Apple's Screen Time frameworks (Family Controls, Managed Settings and Device Activity). Apple designed these to protect your privacy: the app receives opaque tokens that stand in for the apps you've chosen, not their real identities. In practice that means Ration cannot see which specific apps you have installed or how you use them. This information stays on your device and is never sent to us or anyone else.
Analytics and tracking
We don't use third-party analytics, advertising SDKs, or tracking technologies. Ration does not use Apple's Advertising Identifier and does not track you across other apps or websites.
If you contact us
If you email us for support, we'll receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message. We use that only to reply and help you — we don't add you to any marketing list, and we don't share it.
Children's privacy
A parent or guardian can use Ration to set limits on a child's device. When used this way, the child's settings and usage stay on that device and are not collected by us. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and because everything is on-device, we hold no children's data at all. If you believe a child has sent us personal information — for example, by emailing support — please contact us and we'll delete it.
Sharing and selling
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties — because we don't collect it in the first place.
Your rights
Depending on where you live — for example under UK or EU GDPR, or California law — you have rights over your personal data, such as access, correction and deletion. Because Ration stores your information on your own device and we don't hold it, you're already in control: you can review or erase everything by managing or deleting the app. If you've emailed us and would like that correspondence deleted, just ask.
Security
Your information is protected by your device's own security — your passcode, Face ID or Touch ID, and iOS's app sandboxing. Because we don't store your data on our servers, there's no central database that could be breached.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we'll note it in the app or here.
